Locandina_Speed_DatingDuring Futuro Remoto, the biggest Science Festival of Naples, we organized the first Scientific Speed Dating ever in our city!

A Speed dating is a standard match-making process of dating system whose purpose is to encourage people to meet a large number of new people. The first one was organized at Peet’s Café in Beverly Hills in late 1998.

With a science festival in the biggest square of our city, we had to think how to facilitate the meeting between
people and researchers. So, just like in heart affair, we thought that a speed dating was the right tool for common
people to meet them. The event was organized with “People” and “Scientists”, they were rotated to meet each other over a series of short “dates” of 10 minutes. At the end of each interval, we ringed a bell to signal the participants to move on to the next date.

In 10 minutes, people could ask scientists whatever they wanted: why is the sky blue, what the infinite is, are we alone in the universe, or even what is the scientist job about. We have a full one-hours session of questions. As you can see from the images, people were amused, were speaking like with a friend. 16 Scientists and more than 50 People made the connection
between the Science and the City.

We would like to thank all the Scientists that made this possibile: Lucio Rossi, Giuliana Galati, Giulia Rusciano,Tristano Di Girolamo, Camilla Di Donato, Marco Serpico, Andrea Rubano, Biagio Rossi, Gian Paolo Papari, Giovanni Covone, Francesca Di Lillo, Antonino Di Leva, Pietro Malara, Giovanni Cantele, Stefano Lettieri, Valentina Di Sarno, Giovanni Onorato and Antigone
Marino. And their institutions, too.
